There are many theories about soaking chia seeds but as far as we know, there are no extra nutritional benefits for Soaking Chia seeds.
Chia seeds can be eaten whole with no soaking. It is best to keep your fluids up when you eat whole chia seeds because they swell inside your stomach trapping fluid.
Some people prefer to soak their chia seeds first for about 20 minutes before adding to food or smoothies. They become gelatinous and thicken which is a texture some people prefer.
Some prefer the seeds in powder form; you can grind your own seeds or buy chia powder. It will still have a good nutritional profile but one of the benefits of the seed is that they help you to feel full for longer and assist in the elimination process.
When adding to a smoothie you can let the smoothie stand for approx. 20 mins before drinking if you want a thicker consistency.
