Don’t forget that a good green smoothie needs Protein

THE HUGELY GREEN SMOOTHIEWhy? Because a concentration of fruit and vegetables often has a high glycaemic load and can spike your blood sugar levels which is why you usually instantly feel energised with a green smoothie.

By adding protein: you will help slow down the release of sugars into the blood stream and help keep insulin levels from spiking. Adding protein helps even out the glycaemic load and keeps your energy levels on a more even plane for longer.

Here is the Hugely Green Smoothie recipe we made last Friday night at Liberty life.
This is my latest regular morning smoothie and I love it.

Ingredients:

Handful of spinach (remove coarse stems)
Handful of kale (ribs removed)
1/2 stick of celery
1 apple
1 orange
Juice from ½- 1 lemon
Knob of fresh ginger
1 banana
1 large glass of filtered water
1Tbs sacha inchi protein powder
1 Tbs chia seeds
1 Tbs lucuma (optional)
2 tsp green smoothie shot (my signature product for gut health)

Method:

I used my blender for this green smoothie not my hand held. Place leafy greens, celery and ginger in the blender with the water. Blitz. Then add all the remaining ingredients and blitz thoroughly until the green smoothie is light and slightly fluffy.

This recipe really makes 2 smoothies. Sometimes I drink it all, other times I save the second smoothie in the fridge for the next day…..especially if the next day is a get up and go day.

You get a good hit of protein from the sacha inchi protein powder and chia seeds so however you choose to make your green smoothie be sure to add these two products.
